Why are raining days so hard on people?

Today we decided since the rain was coming down pretty good this morning that we would just throw on a movie. We put on "It's a Bugs Life" and they really enjoyed watching something new. They were laughing and giggling. I have a feeling that we will be putting more movies on with winter coming up!

Wednesday we had Foot Clinic come in and pamper our residents.

From soaking there feet in warm soaping water to after getting lotion rubbed in.

They got extra spoiled with home made popcorn while relaxing!

Every other Friday we still play balloon volleyball.

Last week we had a great turn out and they played for almost an hour.

They really get into the game and start laughing and joking around.

We love having Connie coming in and doing Yoga with our residents.

We will be having her coming in the mornings for the next little bit so we have moved

Sit and Fit for the afternoons. The residents really seem to enjoy learning new breathing Technics also the meditation time towards the end.

Branch BBQ

Friday August 27 the 9th Branch did a big BBQ for Welcome

Home residents. Everyone loved the food and really enjoyed the company.

The only bad thing was the weather so we had to move everything

inside. It still turned out great!!! Thanks to everyone that helped out to

make it so amazing for the residents.

We had so much fun grilling some hamburgers and hot dogs for all the

residents. We ended the lunch with some indoor fireworks which made

the party so much more colorful!!

Balloon Volleyball

Friday we had a lot of fun activities planned. In the morning we first started out

with our Sit and Fit exercises and then not much longer we ate lunch. After lunch

is when the fun began we started out with a little game of Balloon

Volleyball then ended it with home made Ice Cream. No better way to start the summer

We had Yoga this past week. It's very relaxing for our residents and also a good source of exercise. Connie Day comes and teaches classes 3 times a month. Here is a picture of them stretching and getting ready for more.

This is my favorite part is towards the end they do a little mediation to calm their bodies and minds. We always have a good turn out for this activity.

December is such a fun month for everyone. Welcome Home is always busy with great Christmas Programs.

There were so many vocal groups that came to perform for us here. Thanks to Bountiful High for sharing their afternoon with us. Also, for

Gloria for arranging the other performance. We also had

many little children come up and sing and dance for them.

Watching the residents faces light up and smile is the best reward for us.

We had many piano players come and share their talents with us. It's amazing to hear all the Christmas songs played in different ways. We never get sick of hearing them.

Today's Chat and Chew we celebrated "Thomas Crapper Day!" That's right. Lenore found some interesting trivia in news letter and wanted me to share it with the group. Come to find out that There is actually a Thomas Crapper day. January 17th according to the Chase's calender of event day, is the day set aside to honor, who else Thomas Crapper.

Thomas Crapper (1836-1910) did exist and is credited with improving the functionality of the early flush toilet (or "water closet," as it was then called), but he did not, contrary to popular belief, invent the pseudo-eponymous bathroom appliance from scratch. Credit for that goes to 16th-century author Sir John Harrington, who not only came up with the idea but installed an early working prototype in the palace of Queen Elizabeth I, his godmother. The first patent for a flushing water closet was issued to Alexander Cummings in 1775, sixty years before Thomas Crapper was born.The son of a Yorkshire steamboat captain, Tom Crapper's destiny was fixed when he was apprenticed to a master plumber at the age of 14. He owned his own plumbing shop in London by the time he was 25. Crapper was awarded nine patents for plumbing innovations during his lifetime, three of them consisting of improvements to the flushing water closet. Though he made his name as a sanitary engineer to blueboods, Crapper himself was lowborn and never knighted, so it's a mystery why storytellers consistently award him the title "Sir."

The date of Crapper’s death has also been a source of confusion for many years. For example, Chase's Annual Events, the authoritative book for listing special days and dates, has listed January 17 as Thomas Crapper Day and January 17, 1910 as the date of his death.

Lenore's Bird

For those of you who may have heard the tale of Lenore's bird...the mystery continues.

There are some that think that the bird is simply a shadow being cast from a sign, but don't tell Lenore this. She is convinced that there is a bird that comes out about the same time each day but only when the sun is out. It stays near the sign. Sometimes its on the grass and sometime it sits on that post on the sign.

One interesting thing that we discovered. When you play a game from a book written in 1946, you may not know a lot of the answers if you were born in the 70's. Or 60's or 50'2, 40's, 30's -We all struggled with some.

But no one really cared, when you get to follow up with the game by eating a cream puff.

We had our third annual Noon Day Party. We count down the seconds to the New Year at Noon. Most of us won't be up at Midnight and this gives us a chance to PARTY.

We had Prime Rib, Baked Potatoes, Brocolli, Roll, Cheese Cake, and started it off with Oleve toasting in the New Year with some Sparkling Apple Cider.

Political Recap

Where has time gone? I logged onto the blog and was surprised to see that the last posting was on Halloween. We've had lots of fun things going on here.

Saturday, we played BINGO! They love there bingo.

Sunday, church of course.

Monday, Sit and Fit in the Morning.

The Election has been a pretty hot topic around here. Its interesting to hear some of the things that the residents pick up on watching various news programs, or reading in the paper. On Tuesday we took Esther to the polls in the middle of the snow storm. We ran into Ginger ( Doris' Granddaughter )there.

Yesterday we had Chat and Chew going on. We had a big turn out and of course they always enjoy the chew part more then chat.

Today they had Relief Society.

We have had two new residents move in this week end, and will have one more move in today. Keep checking back we will have a spotlight on each one.

We each made a Halloween Bag to put our Candy in. The residents really have a fun time doing crafts. Some made ghosts, others pumpkins, bats, and some we weren't sure what they where. But never the less, we were having a good time. Most of the ladies sat in the big room and watched The Phantom of the Opera on the big screen while we waited for the Trick or Treaters to show up. Here is Oleve, Bessie, Joy, and Carol sit waiting to hand out the candy. Even though I watched them get a piece or two for themselves.

It was nice to have Heinz grand kids come in and play the piano for the residents at lunch. We had Fried Chicken, Cucumber Salad, Potatoes, and biscuits for lunch. For desert, we had Ice cream with fresh Strawberries. Oleve ordered a very small serving, but didn't find it nearly as funny as the rest of us when we took her the largest plate we could find and placed a quarter sized scoop of ice cream with one slice of strawberry. Lucky for her we are an all you can eat establishment.

I hope nobody finds out that I put a little TLC in the cooking when no one is looking. And in case anyone has noticed the food is a little sweeter since Rene left, its because I accidentally touched it.

We are glad that Bessie's Grand Daughter stopped in to see her. We had a good chuckle.

We had our Chat and Chew today. I like to rearrange the tables. Some of them get so worried that they are sitting in someone elses seat.

We started off discussing NASA's 50 year anniversary. That discussion wasn't going anywhere. So we started talking about life before the car, TV, Color TV, and computers.

Lenore said she remembered her first movie with sound, and then told of the time she went to the movie and some guy let out a yelp and killed over dead. She said that they wouldn't do anything with him until after the show was over. The wife was carrying on and ruined the rest of the show for everyone.

Oleve told us she used to play the piano for the silent movies in Lehi when she was young.

It turned out pretty good, even though I burnt the cookies.

We had our Out to Lunch Bunch. We went to Sizzler for Steak -Seafood -Salad - Sizzler. A few of the ladies went to the Bountiful Temple with the Relief Society.

The ladies have also had a fun time watching the Hollyhock grow in the front of the building.
